Of namey things

Shared Topic:
What takes the longest to choose, is the first thing people see, and is the one thing they always remember about you and your character?

Your name.

How did you decide upon the name for your character(s)? Did you delve into Norse, Greek, or Roman mythology? Did you choose a name from one of your family members? Did you mash the "Random" name generator button in vain until you stumbled upon something you liked? Is your name a play on aspects of your class, using spells or other traits? Did you play around with syllables, vowels, and consonants until you found something that you loved?

Marariel
Marariel is a unique name; at this moment in time and hopefully always. The base of the name, 'Mara', was picked out first. I chose it for my warlock because Mara is the Hindu goddess of Death and the Buddhist demon of Temptation. After that it was a matter of adding syllables that sounded right.

Since then, I have found out that Mara is also Hebrew for 'bitterness' and Mar is Syriac for 'lord'.

Ixchell
Ixchel is the Mayan goddess of the earth, the moon, and medicine. I chose it for my paladin because, to me, it implies a being who will protect and heal.

Aioka
Aioka is more complicated. Her original name was Caiia - Indonesian for 'Light', though spelled very differently. 'Aioka' itself doesn't have a unique meaning. 'Ai' is Japanese for 'love'. 'Oka' is a Japanese surname, is Japanese for 'hill', and a river in Spain.

I chose these names for my priest - Caiia and Ai, light and love - because they're almost absurdly appropriate for a healer. This has since become a bit ironic, as Aioka's Shadow side is just a prevalent as her healing side.

Feight
Feight is what it appears to be - a twist on the word 'Fate'. It is the name my deathknight took upon becoming a minion of the Lich King. Since her freedom she has chosen to continue using it because she feels unworthy of her original name.

The credit for this is due to the now discontinued webcomic Saturnalia. The character Feight is described as "Cool and mature, she can seem cold at times, but she's rather soft to those she cares about".
